Education

Education and Hockey Together:

The Sarnia Sting and Ontario Hockey League provide young hockey players with the best of both worlds - obtain a high standard of education and play in the world’s premiere development league!

All OHL clubs are governed by League Education Standards that ensure players complete their high school in a timely and successful fashion . All players’ grades are monitored closely by OHL Clubs, their education advisors and school counsellors. If necessary, players receive tutoring or other assistance to ensure they perform academically to their full potential. All costs associated with a player’s education, whether high school or post secondary courses, are covered by the OHL Club. Sarnia Sting player’s attendance is faxed and emailed to the Hockey Club offices everyday to notify the coaches of the player’s attendance that day. Players and Coaches meet daily to discuss any absences or late classes. All Sarnia Sting Academic standing is communicated directly to the parents on a regular basis to ensure that the player’s grades and assignments are completed in a timely fashion.

Each season, the OHL recognizes both hockey and academic achievement. The OHL annually presents awards to the OHL scholastic player and team of the year that have performed the best both academically and on the ice. The Sarnia Sting also present their annual Scholastic Player of the Year Award.

The OHL schedule extends from September to March, followed by playoffs. Although the player’s hockey goals are to win the OHL Championship and play for the Memorial Cup title, education goals are equally important. For players who want to succeed both academically and in hockey -the OHL offers you the opportunity to reach the top of the class both on and off the ice! All Sarnia Sting players attend Northern Secondary School in Sarnia, Ontario if still of High School age. The Sarnia Sting Education is directed by Caroline White from the Lambton Kent District School Board.
